*The kidney bean table at the back of the room is our No Flex Zone. It serves as a space for students to reflect and focus by themselves when they need to be away from the group setting. Students complete a reflection sheet as shown below and decide when it is appropriate to return to the group setting.

Reinforcement: Reflection Sheets
If scholars are impulsive and make a decision that is poor, they are sent to a buddy classroom to reflect. It is important that, no matter the decision, they are reflecting. If they choose something that is impulsive, they need to reflect on what they did and what affect it had on those around them. These sheets are filled out by scholars who make an impulsive decision that affects others. As you can see from the student example, they are explicit in what the action was, who it affected, and what they could do differently. Students in my classroom are in a state of constant reflection, whether they make an impulsive decision or not. |
